Day 17 Boadilla to Sahagun

64km, 3 hours 45min

We had coffee and toast at our Albergue and then set off with high hopes for the day. I had a good start as my bike seemed to be working today! Not all the time, but more than half of it.

There was a lot of fog this morning which made riding next to the river quite stunning. We stopped for coffee in Fromista.

In Carrion de Los Condes we found a great pilgrim shop which sold padded cycling shorts! Toni, Graham and I made the splurge to try to save out ass-ets a bike today, Dan however opted for suffering.

Unfortunately Graham was the one with bike troubles today- his pedal assist was not working until the last hour, so he rode most of the way with leg power alone.

Luckily there were less uphills and quite a few places he could ride on the asphalt rather than the gravel. I think we all had a little fun on some of the unsealed downhill sections.

Cycling has meant we stop and explore the small towns less, we have checked out far fewer churches the last 2 days.

We are staying in Sahagun tonight which means we’ve jumped 2 stages past most of our Camino buddies, and tomorrow we will travel 3 more. Hopefully after our rest days in Leon and Ponferrada we may see some of them again.

Our Albergue here is run by the Marist fathers and we have a quad room with private bathroom for only $7 euro per head which is great. The Marist sister who greeted us is from Wellington which was a nice connection to make. They were also very accommodating with our bikes.
