Day Six Pamplona to Puente La Reina

25km, 6.5 hours, 400m elevation

We left Pamplona early this morning in an attempt to beat the heat. This provided Graham an opportunity for many sunrise photos as we walked.

After a couple of hours we stopped for a coffee and a bite to eat, before hitting today's 400m hill. While walking I met a fellow Kiwi, Emily, from Matamata.

There were a lot of bicigrinos (pilgrims on bikes) up the narrow tracks which was a bit tricky, but we arrived at the top of Alto de Perdón (Hill of Forgiveness) to the sound tof the windmills and the famous pilgrim monument.

We had a foot break at the top and took photos for others. Next came a steep descent with lots of loose gravel and larger rocks- ankle and knee sprain territory but we all made all made it down ok. From there on it was searing hot, 28-30 degrees and we still had quite a few hours of walking. We went through a few little towns, I was very glad to have my shade umbrella.

We checked in to our booked accommodation, Albergue Puente Para Peregrinos, around 2.30pm and we pleasantly surprised with our terrace facing room. This town is lively for its small population of 2000ish people and has a great feel to it. We bought some food at the local supermarket and made a nice spread for dinner at the albergue, along with Tinto de Verano of course! Tonight's albergue costs $20 euro each for a quad room (2x sets of bunks). Now off to bed before another long, hot day tomorrow.
