We arrived to rain in SJPDP around midday, the pilgrims office did not open until 2pm and our albergue not until 3pm.
Note Graham's very sad face because he realised he had left his hat at the apartment in Paris.
We had a wonderful lunch finished with crème brûlée, and then checked in to Beilari. After ditching our packs we explored the ancient walled town of St Jean Pied de Port, established in the 8th century. We managed to find Graham a new hat too!
We came back to Beilari to get ready for the shared dinner, which was a fantastic experience. There were 18 guests staying and the host Joseph did a wonderful job of getting everyone chatting. We have pilgrims from the US, Denmark, France, Sweden, Slovakia, Switzerland, Mexico, Germany, Spain. It's lights out at 10.30pm to get a good sleep before starting our Camino tomorrow. Many of us have booked Borda for the first night, rather than walking all the way to Roncesvalles, so it feels like we will have a Camino family starting already.
