Day Three Roncesvalles to Zubiri. 22.6km, 5 hours 45 min

We awoke in Roncesvalles to the otherworldly sound of plainsong (we think that's what it's called). We had breakfast at the same place as last night's dinner, and started walking around 7.30am. We walked through a few beautiful little villages along the way, before stopping for lunch.

It was a mainly undulating walk, but the last 5km were killer, steep downhill shale. A lot of people were already looking fatigued, it was a bit of a worry that they may really get hurt. It was very hot walking, around 28 degrees, and we saw paramedics attending a pilgrim who looked overcome with the heat.

We arrived at Zubiri and crossed over the bridge to get to our accommodation, we stayed at albergue Suseia. It was $16 euro for bed and $18 euro for dinner. When we checked in we met a fellow pilgrim Nigel who turned out to be Phil's Dad! Phil was at Borda the same night as we were. The host Sara's dinner was fantastic- Gazpacho verde (cold soup), salad, pintos, and patatas a la Riojana. I had a few too many glasses of Rosè!
